Boer Goat Australia Achieves EU Recognition Milestone

Boer Goat Australia Inc is proud to announce that on the 30/03/2026 we have been included on the European Commission's List of Breeding Bodies published in accordance with Articles 34(1) and 64(4) of Regulation (EU) 2016/1012.

This recognition marks a significant achievement for our association and for Boer goat breeders across Australia. Inclusion on the European Commission's list acknowledges that our breeding program and pedigree recording systems meet the requirements established under the EU Animal Breeding Regulation for recognised breeding bodies from non-EU countries.

Being listed strengthens international confidence in Australian Boer goat genetics and supports opportunities for breeders seeking to participate in global breeding and genetic exchange programs.

We extend our sincere thanks to our members, breeders, volunteers, and industry supporters whose dedication to maintaining high breeding and recording standards has made this achievement possible.

This milestone reinforces Boer Goat Australia's commitment to genetic integrity, breed improvement, and advancing the Australian Boer goat industry on the international stage.

We look forward to building on this success and creating even greater opportunities for our members in the years ahead.

This is a significant achievement for the Australian Boer goat industry.

Based on the European Commission's published framework, inclusion on the EU list of recognised breeding bodies means that a non-EU breeding organisation has demonstrated that its breeding program, pedigree recording, animal registration processes, genetic evaluation methods, and governance arrangements meet the requirements established under the EU's Animal Breeding Regulation (EU) 2016/1012. The European Commission maintains and publishes this list for recognised breeding bodies from third countries.

For Boer Goat Australia Inc, being added to the European Commission's list on 30 March 2026 means:

  • International recognition of its breeding and pedigree systems.

  • Increased confidence in Australian Boer goat genetics among overseas breeders.

  • Improved opportunities for participation in international genetic exchange and breeding programs.

  • Greater credibility when exporting breeding stock, semen, embryos, and pedigree information into markets that recognise EU breeding standards.

The underlying legislation, Regulation (EU) 2016/1012, establishes a common framework for breeding animals including cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, and horses, and requires recognised breeding bodies to maintain equivalent standards for breeding books, animal registration, performance testing, and genetic evaluation.

Congratulations to Boer Goat Australia, its members, volunteers, and breeders on achieving a milestone that places Australian Boer genetics within a recognised international breeding framework. This recognition should help strengthen the reputation of Australian Boer goats in global breeding markets and support future opportunities for members seeking international engagement
